Helping Preserve Louisville’s Natural Areas and Improving Access to Nature

The primary focus of Wilderness Louisville is to raise funds and advocate for improvements at Jefferson Memorial Forest and within other natural areas managed by the Natural Areas Division of Louisville Metro Parks & Recreation. Our work is in alignment with the 2009 Louisville Metro Parks forest master plan, which provides a detailed vision for future land acquisitions, public facilities and nature/adventure programs at Jefferson Memorial Forest.

Funding provided by Wilderness Louisville to the Natural Areas Division of Louisville Metro Parks & Recreation supports:

  • Programming to increase access to nature and nature programming for low-income youth and youth of color
  • Conserving land through property acquisition to improve ecological connectivity at Jefferson Memorial Forest
  • Restoring degraded habitat through invasive species management and tree planting

Wilderness Louisville is proud to be the primary fundraising entity supporting the West Louisville Outdoor Recreation Initiative and the Louisville is Engaging Children Outdoors (ECHO) program.
