The 15th annual Great American Campout is a nationwide event that connects people with the great outdoors. This event is an easy way for friends\, families\, and children to connect with nature\, sleep under the stars\, and create memories of outdoor experiences. Jefferson Memorial Forest will provide the campfire\, s’mores\, and evening activities for your family to enjoy. You provide your dinner\, breakfast\, and tent. In the morning\, you will have the day to explore the Forest; spend time hiking any of our 35 miles of trails or fishing at Tom Wallace Lake with free fishing poles provided at the Welcome Center. \nFEE for camping: $25 per family (up to 4 people)\, $5 per additional family member. SUMMARY:Winter Hike in the Woods
DESCRIPTION:Time to get off the couch and get your body moving! Winter hiking means no bugs\, no humidity\, and better views!  Hiking in cooler temperatures even burns more calories! What’s not to love?! The Scott’s Gap full loop is a moderate to strenuous 3.3 mile trail that traverses the hills and valleys of the westernmost portion of Jefferson Memorial Forest. Join Forest staff for a fun morning of exercise and a bit of learning about the winter woods. There is an elevation gain of 640 ft. on this hike. Dress in layers and bring a water bottle and snacks. Hiking poles are recommended if you have them. Please note that there are no restroom facilities at this location. If you are coming as a group we suggest carpooling as the parking lot fills quickly on the weekend. \nIntermediate Level (not a beginner hike) \nProgram meets in the parking lot of Scott’s Gap. \nFEE: $10/person \nFor ages 9 and older. A parent/legal guardian must accompany anyone under the age of 18. \nPre-Registration required by calling 502/368-5404.
