SUMMARY:Winter Hike in the Woods
DESCRIPTION:Time to get off the couch and get your body moving! Winter hiking means no bugs\, no humidity\, and better views!  Hiking in cooler temperatures even burns more calories! What’s not to love?! The Scott’s Gap full loop is a moderate to strenuous 3.3 mile trail that traverses the hills and valleys of the westernmost portion of Jefferson Memorial Forest. Join Forest staff for a fun morning of exercise and a bit of learning about the winter woods. There is an elevation gain of 640 ft. on this hike. Dress in layers and bring a water bottle and snacks. Hiking poles are recommended if you have them. Please note that there are no restroom facilities at this location. If you are coming as a group we suggest carpooling as the parking lot fills quickly on the weekend. \nIntermediate Level (not a beginner hike) \nProgram meets in the parking lot of Scott’s Gap. \nFEE: $10/person \nFor ages 9 and older. DESCRIPTION:Did you know there is a swamp only miles from downtown Louisville? And did you know there are almost 200 different types of birds that inhabit this swamp? Join us as we explore Caperton Swamp and search for the beautiful birds that take rest here on their journey south. Binoculars and ID guides provided. No birding experience necessary. Bring out the whole family! We will avoid the muddiest areas\, but wear closed toed shoes that can get dirty. Program meets at the parking lot at Caperton Swamp on River Rd. just down the road from Cox and Thurman-Hutchins Parks.\nChildren under 18 must be accompanied by adult. Pre-registration is required.\n$10/person. Call 502-368-5404 to register.
