Wilderness Forest Adventure Handout (7)

Join Wilderness Louisville, Inc. on Saturday, October 21st from 9am-2pm at Jefferson Memorial Forest for the Wilderness Louisville Forest Adventure. Climb the 52-ft Alpine Tower, try your hand at archery or fish on Mitchell Hill Lake. Forest staff and volunteers will introduce visitors to the native plant gardens and animal exhibits and activities for children including pumpkin decorating, hay rides and nature-based activities will be held in the Nature Explore area. Jefferson Memorial Forest staff and volunteers will lead hikes at various skill levels from 9:15am-12:30pm.

The event kicks off at 9am with a 5K trail race, the Forest Adventure 5k, organized by Headfirst Performance. You can register for the 5k race here https://www.active.com.

The Wilderness Louisville Fall Adventure, sponsored by Quest Outdoors and Wilderness Louisville, Inc., will be held at Jefferson Memorial Forest in the Horine Reservation located at 12304 Holsclaw Hill Road in Fairdale. Event is free and open to the public. Food will be available for purchase with a portion of food sales benefiting the Forest.

FREE GUIDED HIKES

Coral Ridge Trail 9:15 a.m. 7.3 miles • Strenuous along the Blue Trail to the moderate Coral Ridge Trail.

Red Trail Long Loop 9:30 a.m. 4.8 miles • Strenuous in a few places but mostly moderate.

Blue Trail 9:45 a.m. 1.4 miles • Strenuous in a few places but mostly moderate.

Easy Route 10 a.m. Mostly flat, short walk.

Red Trail (w/ shortcut) 11 a.m. 3.1 miles • Strenuous in a few places but mostly moderate.

Easy Route Noon Mostly flat, short walk.

Orange Trail 12:30 p.m. 1.4 miles • Strenuous in a few places but mostly moderate.

WILDERNESS LOUISVILLE 5K RACE

9 a.m. starting in the field at the Headfirst Performance booth. Registration begins at 8 a.m., same location.

ARCHERY

35 minute sessions. Ages 7 and up. Limit 20 per session. Follow Archery signs.

MUSIC

Performance from Noon-2 pm by The River Rounders on the stage in the field.

HAYRIDES

Leave every 20 minutes, from 9:30 a.m. until 1:40 p.m. Meet at the Hayride sign by the gravel road.

PUMPKINS

Get your free pumpkin and decorate it at the pumpkin booth! While quantities last.

ALPINE TOWER

Our 52-foot alpine climbing challenge! Necessary gear provided. Participants are belayed by trained staff and volunteers. Age 7 and up. Follow Alpine Tower signs.

NATURE PLAY AREA/ECHO MOBILE

Bring your child to explore unstructured play with natural materials. At 11 AM, Mayor Greg Fisher will help to unveil our new “ECHO Mobile”!

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTER

Visit and learn about small animals and the creatures that call the Forest home.

FISHING

10 a.m.-1 p.m., join Forest staff at Mitchell Hill Lake to hone your fishing skills. Take a guided hike to the Lake or hike down independently. You must have a fishing license if you are over 16!
