With funding nearly support from Wilderness Louisville, Inc. a nature playground will soon be a reality in the southwest corner of Chickasaw Park. This will be a fantastic space where children can explore, play, and be creative in a natural play space. The play area will feature an accessible covered overlook of the Ohio River and will include areas where parents and caregivers may sit and observe under the shade of mature trees. This new amenity was first presented conceptually in the Metro Parks’ 2016 West Louisville Outdoor Recreation Initiative master plan. Final design was developed as a result of community meetings held in 2018 and 2019 with funding support from the National Recreation and Parks Association.

We are excited to announce that this news is a result of a wonderful $400,000 donation through MSD’s Community Benefits program. The Community Benefits Program is focused on ensuring that large MSD projects have a positive impact in neighborhoods where project improvements are made.  As a result of this donation, Metro Parks has now put this project out for bid and it is expected to be completed towards the end of 2022. We will be sure to keep you updated on project and let you know when the new amenity will be open for play!
